Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Find a Hoop collects, uses, discloses, and retains information when you use the website, directory, maps, forms, public API, Google Analytics, advertising, and related services.

1. Scope and who controls information

This Policy applies to Find a Hoop services that link to it. Find a Hoop controls the personal information described here. It does not cover third-party websites, organizations, leagues, maps, registration providers, social networks, advertisers, or other services that we link to but do not control.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Listing submissions: league or organization name, type, location, venue, website, schedule, price, description, and similar directory details.
• Contact details: your name, organization, email address, and phone number when you choose to provide them with a listing or correction.
• Correction and feedback details: the listing involved, requested change, supporting link, explanation, and any name or email address you include.
• Communications: information in messages, requests, legal notices, privacy requests, or accessibility feedback you send us.

Information collected automatically

• Request and technical data: internet protocol address, browser and device type, operating system, language, screen or viewport information, device and advertising identifiers where available, requested pages or API queries, referring and exit information, timestamps, general location derived from an IP address, and similar server or hosting records.
• Usage and analytics data: pages and features viewed, links and content used, session statistics, navigation paths, approximate engagement, referring pages, campaign information, browser and device information, and approximate location. Google Analytics collects some of this information through its default implementation.
• Security and rate-limit data: internet protocol addresses and request timing used to prevent abuse, protect the Service, and apply request limits. The application stores recent rate-limit events temporarily in server memory. Hosting providers may keep their own logs.
• Search information: search terms, city, state, ZIP code, filters, and radius selections you send to the Service.

Information from other sources

We collect directory information from public websites, public records, public maps, league and recreation platforms, community submissions, organizations, data providers, advertisers, marketing partners, analytics providers, and other lawful sources. This may include organization names, public business contact details, locations, schedules, links, program descriptions, referral information, and inferred interests or audience segments.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics: Find a Hoop uses Google Analytics 4 with measurement ID G-RBBDVBKY04. The Google tag loads on pages across the Service so we can understand traffic, sessions, page use, referral sources, browser and device categories, approximate location, and general engagement. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, phone numbers, or form contents to Google Analytics.

Analytics cookies: when you accept analytics, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies such as _ga and a property-specific _ga_* cookie to distinguish a browser and its sessions. Google states that GA4 uses IP addresses at collection time to derive approximate location and discards them before the data is logged. Details about the default collection are available in Google's GA4 data collection documentation.

Consent controls: analytics storage is denied by default until you make a choice. Advertising storage, advertising user data, and ad personalization are denied, and our tag configuration disables Google Signals and ad-personalization signals. Google Consent Mode may send limited consent-state and cookieless measurement data when analytics storage is denied. If you accept analytics, analytics storage is enabled. If you decline, the site disables later Google Analytics measurement for that browser choice. You can reopen Privacy Choices at any time.

You may also delete or block cookies through your browser. Google offers a separate Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google processes information under its own Privacy Policy and Google Analytics terms.

We may add other analytics, advertising, personalization, fraud prevention, or functionality technologies in the future. If practices materially change, we will update this Policy and provide any notice, consent tool, or opt-out method required by applicable law.

4. How we use information

We may use information to:

• provide, operate, search, display, maintain, and improve the directory and API;
• review, verify, edit, publish, reject, or follow up on submissions and corrections;
• respond to questions, legal requests, privacy requests, and accessibility feedback;
• understand and measure use, troubleshoot performance, conduct research, develop features, and test or personalize content;
• market and promote the Service, measure campaigns, select and display advertisements or sponsored content, attribute referrals, and support affiliate or advertising relationships;
• detect, investigate, prevent, and address spam, fraud, misuse, security incidents, and technical problems;
• enforce our Terms of Service and protect users, third parties, the Service, and our rights;
• comply with law, legal process, and lawful government requests; and
• create aggregated or deidentified information that does not reasonably identify an individual and use or disclose it for any lawful purpose.

5. How we disclose information

We may disclose information:

• On the Service: listing information may be published in the public directory. Personal contact details submitted only for our review are not intended for publication unless you asked us to publish them or they are already public organization contact details.
• To service providers: Google processes analytics information for us through Google Analytics. Other vendors that provide hosting, infrastructure, communications, security, maintenance, or operational support may also process information for us under appropriate restrictions.
• To advertising and business partners: if we add advertising, sponsorship, affiliate, analytics, or marketing programs, we may disclose identifiers, device and network information, usage data, approximate location, campaign data, or inferences to select, deliver, measure, secure, and improve advertising or partner programs, subject to applicable notice and choice requirements.
• To map and external services: the map view uses OpenStreetMap tile services. When a map loads, the tile provider receives standard network request information such as your IP address and browser headers. External websites receive information when you visit them.
• For legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information when we believe it is necessary to comply with law or legal process, enforce terms, investigate wrongdoing, protect rights or safety, or prevent harm.
• For a business transaction: information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, insolvency, or similar transaction, subject to applicable law.
• With your direction: we may disclose information when you direct or consent to it.

6. Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising

We do not currently sell personal information for money. We also do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not currently use personal information for targeted advertising.

Our current Google Analytics tag disables Google Signals and ad-personalization signals, and advertising-related consent types remain denied. Privacy-law definitions can vary, so we also provide an analytics choice. We may introduce advertising, sponsorship, or affiliate programs later. Some future disclosures may be defined as a "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising even if no money changes hands. Before engaging in those practices, we will update this Policy and provide any notice, consent, opt-out mechanism, or legally recognized browser-signal processing required by applicable law.

7. Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including maintaining directory history, reviewing submissions, analytics, advertising measurement, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, protecting the Service, and meeting legal obligations. Google Analytics data is retained according to the controls selected for our Analytics property and Google's applicable terms. Retention varies based on the information, its sensitivity, operational needs, service settings, and legal requirements. We may retain public directory data, records needed to establish legal rights, and aggregated or deidentified information for longer periods. We may delete information at our discretion unless law requires retention.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. No website, transmission, storage system, or security measure is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, lost, misused, altered, or disclosed. You provide information at your own risk and should not submit sensitive information that is not needed for a directory request.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

You may accept, decline, or revisit analytics through Privacy Choices. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. A choice stored in your browser applies to that browser and device, so you may need to set it again after clearing storage or when using another browser or device.

Depending on where you live and whether a privacy law applies to us, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or information about our processing; to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling; to limit certain uses of sensitive information; or to appeal a decision. These rights are subject to legal definitions, exceptions, verification, and applicability thresholds.

To make a request, use Submit a Change, select "Other," write "Privacy Request" at the beginning, and describe your request and the information involved. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity, authority, and request. Authorized agents must provide proof of authority, and we may still verify the consumer directly where permitted. We may deny or limit a request when allowed by law. You may appeal a denial through the same form by writing "Privacy Appeal." We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

Because we do not currently sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, there is no separate sale or sharing opt-out required for our current practices. We will process legally recognized browser signals, including Global Privacy Control, where applicable to our practices and required by law.

10. California notice

For California residents, the categories of personal information we may collect include identifiers; internet or other electronic network activity; approximate geolocation; professional or organization information; correspondence; commercial information if advertising or paid features are added; and inferences limited to directory searches, use, or likely interests. The sources, business purposes, and categories of recipients are described in Sections 2, 4, and 5. We do not currently use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics. We do not currently offer financial incentives for personal information. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

Find a Hoop may not be subject to every requirement of the California Consumer Privacy Act because applicability depends on statutory thresholds and other facts. Where the law applies, California residents may exercise the rights described above.

11. Children

The Service is a general-audience directory and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. A child should not submit a listing, correction, or contact information. If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information, submit a privacy request so we can review and, where required, delete it. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising a minor's use of the Service and independently evaluating youth programs.

12. United States service and international users

Find a Hoop focuses on basketball opportunities in the United States. Information may be processed and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location. By using the Service, you understand that information may be processed in the United States, subject to rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

13. Third-party links and maps

We are not responsible for the privacy, security, or accessibility practices of third parties. Review their policies before giving them information. Google Analytics information is available through Google's data safeguards documentation. OpenStreetMap's service and privacy information is available at openstreetmap.org/policies.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time, including when we change analytics, advertising, personalization, or paid features. The revised version is effective when posted unless applicable law requires otherwise. We will change the effective date and provide additional notice or request consent when legally required. Your continued use after an update is subject to the revised Policy.
